1939 HORCH 930V PHAETON

Ah the Horch. A Horch is a Horch of course of course. If you were an up and coming German SS officer about town but didn't have the cash for a Daimler, you bought yourself a Horch. Especially this version. The Horch came in all body styles but the Phaeton wasn't sold in the showrooms. It had to be ordered special. And special it was.

First a bit about Horch. The company was part of the German motorcar conglomerate Auto Union. Auto Union was pretty much like GM here in North America, a company made up of four manufacturers. The only one of those builders to survive today is Audi. The rest, including Horch, were shut down at the end of the Second World War.

Now this car. Is she gorgeous or what? Don't you wanna just cruise through conquered Paris standing up occasionally to salute in that special way as you toodle down the Champs Elysees? Then this was the car for you! At least until your war crimes trial.

Powered by a 233 cubic inch 92 Horsepower V8, this car was capable of autobahn speeds of up to 80 mph which is actually kind of slow due mainly to the weight of the vehicle. Daimler it was not but one made do.
