1957 JAGUAR XK-140

Jaguar The very name conjures up performance and class and the very best of British motoring. What I present today is the car that really put them on the path of international fame and success as a marquee sportscar.

The XK Series was conceived by William Lyons in 1948 as a sleek automobile that sat atop a short wheelbase in two-seat roadster configuration powered by a twin-cam engine. The XK-140, introduced in 1954, carried the Jaguar legacy with outright victories at LeMans in 1955, 1956 and 1957. This 24 hour grueling marathon is a true test of speed and endurance. The XK-Series proved to be the best of its day.

The engine is a 210 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder producing 210 horsepower and, mated to a 4 speed manual gearbox, this car ran at a whopping top speed of 140 miles per hour (hence the 140 in its name). And she could turn on a dime at any speed as this car was as smooth handling as she was fast.

One of the true giants in the automobile industry!
