A lot of you readers have been puzzled by the General Petreus story and specifically why, in all the mainstream news stories, do they seem so determined to make it clear that his affair was recent and not while he was in the military as commander of American forces. I mean an affair is an affair right? The length isn't the issue, the filthy ungodly behaviour is the issue, right?
You’ve rightfully pointed out it’s the most important aspect in all these stories and yet never explained as to why the timeline is more important than the fact of the actual affair and the state secrets he may have inadvertently or otherwise leaked. It almost weirdly seems to be the focus of the story.
Well as always there's a reason in the twisted world we live in. The reason why the timeline is sooooo important to these people is because if he was having an affair whilst in the military he could be shot for treason. Important under those circumstances to have your media flunkies establishing that timeline loud and clear. It’s to avoid another loud and clear sound, namely, READY AIM FIRE!
The affair itself and the sinfulness of this behaviour takes a rather distinct back seat to saving ones skin!
