Canadian Press has named its ‘Newsmaker of the Year’ but this site is so disgusted with the choice that we’ll not publish the name here. Instead we’ll let interim federal Liberal party leader Bob Rae respond for us.
Bob Rae was among the first to express his anger and disappointment on Sunday, tweeting to 33,361 followers that the "Canadian Press reaches a new low with its naming XXXXX as 'newsmaker of the year.' Truly disgusting."
After being challenged about the news value in a response by one his followers, Rae went on to say The Canadian Press had resorted to "cheap sensationalism" and that "lots of people had more impact and made more news."
We agree with the honourable member wholeheartedly. We would take it one step further. Canadian Press has not been relevant for a lot of years now and selecting who they selected is actually using this creeps notoriety to help their own need for news relevance.
Certainly naming him in this way gives the creep everything in the way of publicity that he craved, the very reason for him committing the crimes he’s accused of committing and we expect this decision to be reversed and the 2nd place vote finisher, Amanda Todd, to be named in this creatures place.
One other point on this subject. The selection of Newsmaker of the Year is achieved by polling all major mainstream newsmedia outlets and getting them to vote as to who they select. Now this is no excuse, Canadian Press could just simply have ignored the ballots with XXXX as the selection but it is important to be aware that the very same media outlets now reporting on how naughty Canadian Press was to select this guy, are the very same media outlets that voted for him in the first place.
In other words, there's plenty of sleaze to go around on this topic, it's not just a Canadian Press issue.
