Translink transit police using an explosive while training bomb-sniffing dogs at Vancouver International Airport left a bomb on a commercial airliner and failed to report it for two days, according to documents obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation under a Freedom of Information request.
The last known whereabouts of the bomb was last been seen on Jan. 12, 2011, while Translink police were working onboard an Air Canada Boeing 767 at Vancouver International Airport. They brought the bomb on board but did not take it off again with them. The plane took off en route to Toronto and when it landed a thorough search of the plane turned up no bomb.
Investigators were never able to determine who had seen the bottle-like device and it was never found, and stated in their internal report on the matter they believed it had been thrown out in the garbage. A crew member told investigators he found a similar-looking bottle while clearing the plane and left it on the seat for cleaning. He did not say if the detonating cap was located attached to the bomb. Transit security assure us it was not and no plane was officially reported as having blown up that day so it's possible that the situation was defused.
