1936 TERRAPLANE EXPRESS CAB TRUCK

When we think of classy old automobiles we don't usually think of pickup trucks but this old truck is one of the coolest art deco designs of any vehicle made back in the day. Built by Hudson under their Terraplane brand, which is kind of like Dodge is to Chrysler, within that brand they sold small trucks and vans. Largely forgotten today, once upon a time this was where you shopped for a slightly upscale 'hobby farm' type work truck.

This particular example pictured here was used on a dairy farm hauling milk cans followed by service at an upstate New York garage. It was discovered in the basement of a house where it had been stored. It underwent a three and a half year restoration with parts very difficult to find due to its rarity. Only a handful of these Terraplane trucks are known to survive which is a pity because they are sweet on the eye (for a truck that is!).

One other note, an interesting thing about this truck is its use of 'suicide' doors, doors that open from the front rather than the back of the door. Tres chic!
